When Life Handed Her Yarn, Adella Colvin Spun a Bright Future
The founder of LolaBean Yarn didn’t expect to move from NYC to rural Georgia. Nor did she expect that admiring a new neighbor's crochet work would lead her to start her own business.
Dear Friends,
This month, we’re highlighting some of the myriad ways in which artisans and craftspeople build a craft-based business, and what it takes to succeed.
While such ventures always require hard work, luck, and good business sense, there are many possible entry points: Sometimes, it’s a brick-and-mortar shop that’s the result of years of planning and scrimping, or perhaps, buying an existing business and revamping it to suit. Many craftspeople jump right in with an Etsy shop and build up from there; others work for established businesses for years before making the leap on their own. And sometimes, it happens more serendipitously, by being brave enough to seize an unexpected opportunity, and then making the most of it. The latter is how the founder of the wildly popular LolaBean Yarn Co. got her start — with more a few twists and turns along the path to success.
