Uniting Navajo traditional songs with the dynamic currents of contemporary jazz and jazz improvisation, the trumpet master weaves a vibrant tapestry of sound.
“I feel this is where we are headed in music—it will become more of an all-world, all-encompassing force as technology advances, information is transferred more easily, and cultures continue to mix.”

Dear Friends,
Our musical theme continues this week, with a new profile of an artist who embodies “going beyond tradition.” We're delighted to shine the spotlight on jazz trumpet master Delbert Anderson (Diné/Navajo), whose music bridges the rich tapestry of Navajo traditional songs with the vibrant currents of contemporary jazz and jazz improv. Anderson traverses new musical boundaries with his bold, cross-cultural collaborations, and weaves together a unique, rhythmic odyssey that resonates with audiences worldwide. We were fortunate to obtain not only interviews and photos to share with you, but also some audio and video clips of Anderson’s recent compositions.
We hope you’ll enjoy our latest multimedia profile, “Hitting All the High Notes: Delbert Anderson Trumpets On,” written by longtime Craftsmanship contributor RoseMary Diaz (Santa Clara Pueblo).

Coming up next week, we’ll conclude this month’s theme with a new episode of “The Secrets of Mastery” that features an unusually innovative instrument maker who’s based right here in Northern California. So please, stay tuned.
