Garden season is underway... let's dig in!
From compost and soil health science to sustainable design, the month of May will be all about the craft of creating healthy, regenerative gardens.
Happy May Day, Friends!
May 1st marks the halfway point between spring and summer, and here in California, gardening season is in full swing. Over the next few weeks, we’ll be bringing you a new collection of stories and conversations that focus on the art, craft, and science of creating sustainable gardens.
Why? Sustainable practices foster not only bountiful harvests, but more resilient ecosystems and healthier communities. Our Archive story on Oakland’s Acta Non Verba is just one example of how it’s done. Founded by Kelly Carlisle in 2010, this urban farm became a haven of youth education and productivity in a high-density, high-crime neighborhood that previously had little access to natural environments or fresh, healthy food.
We hope you’ll enjoy reading “A Home-Grown Social Entrepreneur,” written by Will Callan. And stay tuned for more inspiring stories and expert advice throughout the month of May. It might just empower you to cultivate your own green thumb, one sustainable garden bed at a time.
Thank you for reading and sharing our stories, for supporting our work with a paid subscription if you can, and for being part of the Craftsmanship community. We couldn’t do this without you.
Sincerely,
The Craftsmanship Team
