Beyond Organic: Healing Our Soil
An audio interview with Paul and Elizabeth Kaiser, the dynamic duo behind a tiny vegetable farm in Northern California that is operating on the frontlines of the regenerative agriculture movement.
Dear Friends,
Today we’re expanding just a little beyond our May theme on sustainable gardens—8 acres beyond, to be precise.
Craftsmanship has published many stories about the craft of farming and agriculture over the years. One of the earliest and most popular, “The Drought Fighter,” featured the tiny-but-mighty Singing Frogs Farm in Sebastopol, CA, where farmers Paul and Elizabeth Kaiser have been leading the regenerative agriculture movement since its beginning.
A couple of years ago, I returned to the farm for a follow-up conversation with the Kaisers. In this audio interview, you’ll hear how regenerative techniques help fight the effects of climate disruption; some of the mind-boggling results they found in testing their soil and produce; and how they harness Mother Nature to make their land more productive than any human technology ever could.
I hope you’ll enjoy listening to: “Paul and Elizabeth Kaiser on Healing our Soil, and Going Beyond Organic,” interviewed by yours truly:
You can play this interview right here on Substack, over on our website, or on popular podcast streaming services like Apple and Spotify.
Next Friday, we’ll wrap up the month and our sustainable gardening theme with a new episode of “The Secrets of Mastery.” Entomologist and wildlife ecologist Doug Tallamy will delve into the debate over native plantings vs. biodiversity in our backyards. So please, stay tuned.
Our contributors work long and hard to bring you these beautifully crafted stories. We consider it only fair to pay them for such labors, and we can’t do that without your support. So if you haven’t already upgraded your subscription, just $6/month or $60/year will get you access to the entire Secrets of Mastery series, along with other premium features we have in the works.
We always welcome your thoughts and suggestions—which you can offer in a comment, by tagging us in Substack Notes, or via email. You can also find us on Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube. We put months of effort into our stories, so we thank you for reading and sharing them, for supporting our work with a paid subscription if you can, and for being such a loyal part of the Craftsmanship community.
Sincerely,
Todd Oppenheimer
